In this chapter of the collaboration with Egline Samoei, we discuss mental health and efficiency as marketers and creators as we try to stay afloat not only from the pandemic but also from all that’s been happening around us.

The ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic has disrupted how we work and how we run our businesses. More importantly, how do we take care of our mental health as we grow and adapt? It has shelved some of our habits and opened a new world of possibilities that sounded impossible before.

It has been challenging for everyone. Everybody is striving to stay in the game. So as a marketer, how do you stay in the game? Here are some tips on staying sound and in the game during the ongoing pandemic and post-covid as a digital marketer and content creator.

Be Mindful of Content Consumed Before and After Bed
Digital platforms have become our library, radios and even TVs. The accounts and content we follow have so much impact on our mindsets and moods. We must filter through sensationalisation, negative news and avoid doomscrolling. When you end and start your days with relatable, filtered, positive, and educational content, your moods and behaviour become better. Entrepreneurs, marketers and creators must ignite that inspiration required to be creative and efficient.

Connect and Build A Community
The last thing we need to do is believe we’re alone in our work and ecosystem. The online world has profiles and users to connect and share experiences, knowledge, and expertise easily. As we connect with them, we build and cement a community to grow professionally and socially with them. It is pivotal for creators to acquire more insights and creativity for their development on content, for entrepreneurs and marketers, and gain more resources, skills transfer, and support.

Exercise, Stay Active!
You may have lots of content to create and zoom sessions to attend but make time to exercise. According to the World Health Organization, regular physical activity improves mental health. It can reduce the risk of depression, cognitive decline and delay the onset of dementia — and improve overall feelings of wellbeing during the ongoing pandemic. Therefore, ensure that you always stay active.

Make Time to Unwind
If you are still working from home, ensure that you take a break from your home office. Take a break! Working from home doesn’t mean that you need to work around the clock. Make time to bond with your family or your pet. Take time to relax and do your favourite activity. If you are a green thumb, tend your plants. Water them! Connect with nature.

As a leader, this is where building a culture that perpetuates good mental health and team support is essential. Our teams have to be efficient yet open about their mental health. Integrated working environments (physical and remote) are the future of work. Do we need to all stay ahead in the game while investing in our human capital?

Engage in Skills Development
Through virtual networking, online courses and online chats, you can grow your exposure, skills and influence across creators and marketers across different societies. Today, there are unlimited free learning resources that can help you upskill and reskill. We have Linkedin courses, YouTube videos, Udemy, Google Academy, Semrush Academy, just to mention a few. Assess what you want to learn and learn online!

Do Virtual Networking
The ongoing pandemic should not stop you from connecting with new people during the pandemic. You can join online events and network with other creatives and marketers online. Lookup for events on marketing events websites, Facebook or LinkedIn and connect with people. Having a virtual business card or being open to sharing your social media handle can be an excellent way to exchange contacts. From there, you can build relationships with your network.

Participate in Online Chats
Another way to connect with people, just like virtual networking, is by participating in online chats. Twitter has many marketers chats that you can join daily and learn something new from other marketers. You can join chats like #AfricaTweetChat, #SemrushChat, #TwitterSmarter, #ContentWritingChat or #ChatAboutBrand just to mention a few. You can share your expertise, follow industry experts and nurture your relationship.

Increase Your Online Presence
As part of growing a personal brand, you need to increase your online presence since your customers can connect with you. Your social media accounts should be active and strive to increase your posting frequency so that your content can appear on their feeds. Moreover, ensure the content you create is emphatic and educative because people need support during and after post-Covid.

Wrapping Up!
As we sail through the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and head to Post-pandemic, you need to try your best and maintain your grit as a marketer and content creator. Be mindful of what you consume that could affect your mental health and productivity. Exercise, build a community, network virtually and keep learning!
